Hello fellow LCARA club members.
As I reported at the June club meeting the ARES team supported the Big Fish Triathlon event on May 26th. The event was very well supported this year and we had decent coverage of the 40 km bike course.
In addition to Lapeer County operators, we had hams from St.
Clair, Genesee, and Midland counties. I
know our presence is appreciated by the race sponsor. They always have a parking spot reserved for
net control at the start / finish line and Kenny announced his thanks to
amateur radio maybe 4-5 times over the PA.
Thank you to everyone that supported this event.
I personally had a fantastic time at Field Day this year. Several of us were able to set up our
portable equipment and operate for a good portion of the 24 period – minus
eating time. I think we, as a group, had
just over 300 contacts this year. Thank
you again to Gerret for allowing us to populate his home QTH for the weekend.
July will be a busy month with several EC related events. First there will be the quarterly EMAC
meeting with the county, next comes a Michigan Section (statewide) EC meeting,
and then our Lapeer County monthly ARES meeting.
The July ARES meeting will be at 7:00 pm in the EOC on July
17th. For the July meeting we
are planning on working with FLDIGI using our portable RF equipment. Everyone is welcome to attend if you are at
all interested in this topic.
The Crim this year is on August 24th. I know Genesee County is looking for
operators and would appreciate your help.
This is a very fun event to work and I encourage everyone to try it a
few times.
As a side note don’t forget about the “13 Colonies” event
over the July 4th week. You
can find the information on line at http://www.13colonies.net/.
That’s all for now.
