Meeting Minutes – November 12, 2019
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by President Gerret KD8YUK. There were 14 members and guests in attendance.
The evening’s presentation by Gordon N8GMM was a video showing the differences between vertical antennas and dipole antennas.
Hospital Report: No one was reported ill
General Announcements:
Doug KE8HSF reported the Winter SkyWarn training was attended by a dozen people.
The Annual LCARA Christmas dinner will be Wednesday, December 11, 7pm at E G Nick’s in Lapeer.
Please RSVP to QSO@W8LAP.com by December 8th so we how many people to set up for.
There will be NO LCARA general meeting Tuesday December 10.
Secretary’s Report:
The report was read and then amended by Kevin KB8TAR. It was he who disposed of the electronic equipment that someone left at the EOC not an EOC employee. Then the amended report was approved by the membership present.
Treasures’ Report:
Paul AB8XL reported the status of the treasury including the latest proceeds of the sale of the donated radio gear. The report was unanimously approved by the membership present.
Repeater Trustee Report:
Mike KN8Z reported the repeaters were working fine. Mike also announced that if anyone wanted to use the LCARA call sign for a radio event, contact Mike and he would be willing to allow use of the W8LAP call sign for a radio event. Be aware that if you use the association call sign, you can only use frequencies allowed by your personal license class. Mike also informed the group that the Habitat for Humanity facility can dispose of electronic devices, some however some devices such as CRT’s may require a disposal fee.
Mark KB8BYG reported the 2 meter time announcement was still on daylight savings time.
E C Report:
Kevin KB8TAR reports the next ARES meeting is Wednesday Nov 20 at 7 pm in the EOC basement meeting room. Any interested parties may attend. At the state level next year, there will be a focus on verbal communication skills.
Old Business:
The 501c3 paperwork is still in progress.
LCARA will purchase table space at the L’Anse Cruise Swap, Hazel Park Swap and the Livonia Swap to continue the disposal of donated equipment. Volunteers are welcome to assist at the tables.
We are in need of a presentation coordinator. Gordon N8GMM is off to Arizona to follow the stars.
New Business:
The new 2 meter repeater proposal was brought to the membership last month. The proposal includes a new Motorola analogue repeater, a new ACOM controller with added voice accessories, time keeping, necessary software, cables, & enclosures. The cost will be approximately $3400.
After discussion, a motion to approve the funding of the new system was made by Mike KN8Z, seconded by Gordon N8GMM, and unanimously approved by the membership present.
The 50/50 was won by Mike KN8Z. Meeting adjourned at 8:36 pm.
